  • Lujain Al-Qenaei: We are eager and ready to launch a multitude of environmental, social and economic sustainability initiatives

As part of Gulf Bank’s efforts to integrate sustainability into its practices and activities, and in line with international standards of environmental protection, the Bank announced the safe disposal of 22.3 tons of electronic waste, in cooperation with the recycling company, Enviroserve, a local solid waste management and recycling company.

It is worth noting that Enviroserve is the first recycling facility of its kind in Kuwait, supported by the Kuwaiti National Fund. Their mission is to educate and improve Kuwait’s ecosystem and infrastructure of waste management solutions, assisting in creating a circular economy through reusability and recycling.

"Gulf Bank disposed of 9.6 tons of electronic waste so far this year, compared to 12.7 tons in 2021, including desktop/laptop computers, printers, monitors, coin counting machines, landline telephones, and more," said the Manager of Corporate Communications at Gulf Bank, Lujain Al-Qenaei.

She added that Gulf Bank employees are diligently following all required steps for the safe disposal of these devices – from transportation to recycling, waste pressing, and other recognized disposal methods. She also emphasized the importance of working with specialized companies to reduce the disposal of environmentally harmful waste in landfills, thereby, minimizing CO2 gas emissions and salvaging renewable resources.

The Manager of Corporate Communications at Gulf Bank, Lujain Al-Qenaei, highlighted the various methods in which Gulf Bank is continuing its efforts towards environmental protection and sustainability. In addition to its electronic waste management initiative, the Bank also offers various digital banking services, including a multitude of online and mobile banking services, as part of its efforts to help reduce paper use.

Al-Qenaei added that Gulf Bank engages in environmental sustainability efforts throughout the year, including beach cleanup campaigns, as well as supporting youth initiatives related to environmental sustainability through a strategic partnership with the Kuwaiti non-profit organization, INJAZ.

She concluded by emphasizing Gulf Bank’s eagerness to activate all environmental, social and economic sustainability initiatives, in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Kuwait Vision 2035, and the Bank’s 2025 Strategy. She noted that Gulf Bank issued its first sustainability report for the year 2020 and will soon release its second report.
