Gulf Bank Switches Off Its Lights In Honor of Earth Hour

Kuwait, 30 March 2021: On Saturday evening, Gulf Bank participated in “Earth Hour,” an annual global initiative in which individuals and communities are encouraged to turn off non-essential lights and electronics for a period of one hour from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on the last Saturday of March. The initiative is held with the aim of reducing energy consumption and raising awareness about the dangers of climate change.

As part of its commitment to achieve environmental sustainability, Gulf Bank participated in Earth Hour by turning off all non-essential lights and elevators at its Head Office in the heart of Kuwait City, for a full hour. By taking part in the initiative, Gulf Bank aims to send a message to communities in the region about the threat of climate change and the collective role of both individuals and institutions in reducing energy consumption in order to ensure a more sustainable world.

Regarding this initiative, Lujain Al-Qenaei, Assistant Manager for Corporate Communications at Gulf Bank, said: “At Gulf Bank, we are always actively working toward the sustainability of our resources in each of the sectors in which we operate, taking advantage of all available means to communicate with and benefit our customers. Our ongoing commitment to benefiting our communities has placed us at the forefront of banks that have made it a priority to spearhead impactful social responsibility initiatives. In light of the exceptional circumstances that challenged our global commitment to community and environmental sustainability, now more than ever, it is imperative for all parties to cooperate to address the environmental challenges that affect every inhabitant on earth, including climate change. We hope that by participating in Earth Hour, we will encourage more individuals and institutions to be more mindful of their energy consumption, and to raise awareness about environmental change. Moreover, we hope that by taking action together, we can do our collective part in achieving environmental sustainability to its fullest extent.”

It is worth noting that Earth Hour is one of the initiatives that Gulf Bank regularly encourages and participates in due to its important role in raising environmental awareness. The initiative is also prioritized due to its impact on both environmental and economic sustainability, which Gulf Bank strives to maintain within its social responsibility programs and initiatives throughout the year.

Gulf Bank is committed to maintaining a robust sustainability program at the community, economic, and environmental levels through sustainability initiatives that are strategically selected to benefit both the country and the Bank. Throughout the year, Gulf Bank’s social responsibility initiatives also went hand in hand with international efforts, aligning with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Also known as the Global Goals, the SDGs were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
