Gulf Bank Affirms Its Commitment to Environmental Sustainability & Distributes Recyclable Bottles to All Employees

Gulf Bank distributes high quality reusable water bottles to employees across all branches and departments

Kuwait, 25 January 2021: As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and preservation, Gulf Bank distributed high quality reusable water bottles to all employees across the Bank’s various branches and departments. The initiative aims to reduce the use of single-use plastic and paper cups, encouraging employees to opt for reusable water bottles instead.

As part of the initiative, which was planned, coordinated and implemented by the Bank's Facilities Management team, each employee received an exclusive, high quality, insulated, BPA-free, and leak-proof water bottle from Klean Kanteen. In keeping with Gulf Bank’s colors, the bottles are a vibrant red and are decorated with distinctive drawings inspired by the Bank’s iconic main branch in Kuwait City, which is considered a unique historical and architectural landmark in the country.

Each employee received a bottle engraved with their name as part of the initiative that aims to reduce plastic waste and champion a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. Each bottle can be used for both hot and cold drinks, and is 100% recyclable and biodegradable.

Commenting on the initiative, Saoud Abdulaziz AlMusallam, Deputy General Manager of Facilities Management at Gulf Bank, said: “At Gulf Bank, we are fully committed to sustainability at the societal, economic and environmental levels. In keeping with this promise, we launched this initiative to encourage our employees to reduce the use of single-use plastic and paper cups, and minimize waste. We are proud to be teaming up with Klean Kanteen to provide our employees with high quality drinking bottles customized for every Gulf Bank employee. As with all steps toward positive change, we are starting from within, and hope to encourage everyone to take positive steps towards environmental preservation for the benefit of our communities and country.”

It is worth noting that Gulf Bank engages in various efforts throughout the year to preserve environmental sustainability. In celebration of World Cleanup Day last year, Gulf Bank employees participated in the largest national campaign to clean public places. As part of the Bank’s ongoing efforts to increase environmental awareness, the Bank also launched a series of weekly social media posts offering followers quick and easy ways to protect the environment and preserve our world. The weekly posts, which are posted on Gulf Bank’s Instagram Story, highlight various crucial topics including: the effects of global warming, the positive impact of organic agriculture on our environment, the importance of environmental volunteering, and more. The weekly initiative also includes a series of timely posts related to Kuwait’s seasonal traditions, with tips on how to clean up after outdoor gatherings during “kashta” season, and encourages followers year-round to reduce their waste emission and plastic use. In 2020, Gulf Bank also partnered with United Waste Management Company to recycle paper as part of its commitment to recycling more materials. Throughout the year, the Bank also deepened its partnership with Omniya, a nationwide recycling initiative founded in 2015 by young Kuwaitis aiming to raise awareness for waste recycling. Through this partnership, the Bank is committed to recycling paper and plastic waste, with a series of strategically distributed recycling receptacles located in front of Gulf Bank’s Head Office. By having recycling receptacles in one of the most visible locations in the heart of Kuwait City, Gulf Bank is raising awareness for recycling not only with its employees, but also with members of the local community.
